I’m pleased to announce that a flash fiction story of mine has been selected to be read by Mariah Avix of 600 Second Saga and will go live this Friday. So be sure to check out the list of links below to listen to the story as soon as it goes live, this Friday, October 21st, at 4 PM PST / 7 PM EST.
The story is called ‘Popcorn Bargain’ and is a short, (hopefully) amusing piece with a theme quite fitting for Halloween. At less than a thousand words, it’s quite short too and as the title of the podcast suggests, listening takes less than ten minutes. I’ve heard a preview of Mariah’s reading too, and it’s great. So please give a listen when it launches!

I’m pleased to announce that my novelette, “The Squirming, Scarlet Madness” has now been published by The Society of Misfit Stories and is available on Amazon for purchase or through Kindle Unlimited.
Seventeen-year-old Glorianor Charlock doesn’t deny that she killed her father. But as her story unfolds before the court, the question becomes whether she is simply insane or was some terrifying, unknown force at work?
What is The Society of Misfit Stories? These are stories often trapped in the forsaken shadowlands of the publishing industry: too long for traditional magazines and journals, but too short for print. The Society of Misfit Stories provides a loving home for longer short fiction. Each entry in the series is a stand-alone tale from talented new and established voices in a wide range of genres. Join us each week as we reveal a new story in the collection.
An upcoming scheduled of stories for the Society is available here.
Needless to say, I’m excited to have this story up and out in the world and am looking forward to sending more out there to join it. The main character in this story is projected as a supporting character in at least one future novel. More information about this story is available in a previous post.
I’m happy to announce my novelette “The Squirming, Scarlet Madness” has been accepted by The Society of Misfit Stories and will be published October 7th. It’s my first paid sale in the science fiction, fantasy and horror genres!
The story is about 10,000 words and follows a young woman on trial for parricide in a closed religious community. The Lovecraftean theme is deep and deliberate, albeit with some twists. That said, it’s not set on Earth but a secondary, created world called the Astral Empire, the same setting used by most of my stories. The subject matter is also darker than my others, with murder, black magic, and cosmic entities.
The story had its genesis as a NaNoWriMo project from 2014 and while it never panned out as a novel, I liked it in a shorter form. Due to its length and genre, it didn’t qualify for a lot of short story markets. So it surprised me that it turns out to be the first of my current stories to be a paid sale, finding a home after only four submissions. A huge thank you to Julie Ann Dawson and Bards and Sages Publishing.
You can view the schedule of upcoming stories for the Society here. I will provide another post and link to it on Facebook and Twitter when it’s available for sale.
I’m pleased to announce my flash fiction piece Quanta Rabbit was a finalist in Scientific American’s quantum shorts competition, recently concluded.
The story is accessible here, and other finalists can be viewed here. Congratulations to Liam Hogan, who’s “Ana” took home the $1500 prize.
While it’s disappointing not to win, I was pleased to have been a finalist and look forward to next year’s competition.
The stories were required to feature a genuine aspect of quantum physics in some way, and mine uses superposition at extreme temperatures to suggest its resolution.
The entire story is ~950 words.
